I also got a new ps3 harddrive today... my other one was kind of running out of room and I wanted a new one and they're cheap (!!) and easy to replace. I did some other errands too which included finding a new flavor of skittles and a killzone action figure.
Anyway the harddrive was 500gb for $50. NICE DEAL. I get it, bring it home open it and uh..... lol did they put the wrong one in this box? I checked my receipt again and the box it was in and it said indeed 500gb. NOT THAT I'M COMPLAINING I MEAN FREE SPACE YEA.
So then I plug it into my ps3 get it running/etc everythings back up to speed (just need PSN to come back /sobs/) and I notice it really IS a 640gb harddrive... It was then that I discovered a paper insert inside the box that said "You have just received 140 extra gigabytes of disk space and no extra cost!" and it was dated March 2011. SO WAS IT JUST ONE SHIPMENT OF THEM WITH 640GB IN THE 500GB BOX? or did i just manage to get super lucky? :'D
Either way my PS3 now has more storage room than my desktop PC......which is uh.....really sad. LOL.
At least Sucker Punch said they're going to be extending the inFAMOUS 2 beta. I normally play my ps3 games offline but the ONE TIME i need psn to work it cock blocks me. :'C crai.

ALSO... I have the 80gb fat model that isn't backwards compat (I got it late 2008) but it was super easy to change the drive on it. Basically just take a door off the side, and unscrew the old one/screw in the new one and bam. The hardest thing was backing up my original drive... but luckily I have a box of spare PC internal drives and an external enclosure... so i was able to run the ps3 backup/restore tool so I didn't lose anything. :3 Its definitely worth it! (and even if you haven't done any computering stuff changing a ps3 harddrive is by far the easiest thing i've ever done XD)
AND YES. ;-; omg my room looked like a bomb went off in it it was sooo horrible... and I have friends from out of state coming in late june so i was like I NEED TO DO THIS NOW BEFORE IT GETS TOO CLOSE... so much better feeling. NOW I NEED TO KEEP IT THIS WAY.
