antoj: (Awesome)
does anyone on my flist know japanese/kanji and would be willing to help me translate something? I:

i don't have it yet... BUT I WILL SOON cuz i am a giant nerd as soon as i sell like 2 more of my games i will have enough game-sold munz to buy the japanese version of infamous.

AND YES I KNOW IT'S ONLY SUBTITLED......!

but i want to re-translate the subtitles back into english to see if there are any hidden lulz.

if not, how can i look up what kanji means? :\ I can probs translate the hirigana enough to slap it through a google translate (AND GET LULZ LIKE "Call McGrath have the ability to kick a bomb explosion deliveries.") but idk how to read kanji because i am a nub.

also i just wanted to say for the record i feel lied to by sucker punch. ): (spoilers: nothing happened)

which is why i will send them me having 4 different copies of their game when i get the japanese version. i try too hard on everything shut up

also is the australian version of the game different from the EU/NA one? :D

I know the kanji for "fire"... if that counts for anything. >_>

Good luck on finding a translator. If you do find a translation site for kanji, could you let me know?

Most online dictionaries take kanji, but you'd need to know how to input it (either c/p, or be able to input it using your keyboard).

BUT I NEED TO GET THE GAME, i'm just asking super early cuz im a fag BUT YEAH. it wont probably be for another week or two. :U

i doubt the australian version is different unless they CENSORED IT DUE TO OUR LACK OF AN R18+ RATING *INSERT RAEG ABOUT MICHAEL ATKINSON HERE*

but it's only rated M so it wouldn't be

idk unless you want one with... the australian ratings logo. :'D

LOL well the game was rated T in EU/NA but rated ADULTS ONLY!11!1 1 in japan (idk why)

I JUST DIDNT KNOW IF THE AUSTRALIAN VERSION LOOKED DIFFERENT OR W/E I GUESS FFFFF.

IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS THE SAME COVER AS THE NA ONE ANYWAY. lmao idk why i find it amusing to see the "M" on the front of that. fffff.

ITS PROBABLY BETTER THIS WAY, I WON'T HAVE A NEED TO BUY A 5TH COPY OF THIS GAME THEN |DDDD

Ahh, I've completely forgotten everything from my japanese classes except for some hiragana and katakana :/ jisho.org can probably help you out, though. D:

It's pretty easy to figure out what a kanji is if you can point out the radicals... :O spoilers: I cannot. My bro knows that shit but I DOUBT HE'D WANNA HELP... FFFF.

Most games have hiraganas above the kanjis in subtitles so hopefully this will be the same. D: OTHERWISE... idk. :C

I don't think it does. I MEAN IT'S RATED Z SO I DONT THINK IT WOULD HAVE TRAINING WHEELS KANJI IN IT. Fkdlfsj09f. one can only hope though. DD:

and idfk what radicals are. ;____; bawwwwww. the only japanese training i got didn't include any kanji.

Random stalking! I am lazy and probably don't want to go through all the trouble of doing a whole translation job unless you want to commission 8D; but, if you want to do it by yourself as far as kanji goes, you want this! Denshi Jisho Kanji by Radical (http://jisho.org/kanji/radicals/)

Basically, radicals are the little parts that make up the kanji. So, for example, if you want to find out what the kanji 路 means, you would go into that, click on the picture 足、夂、and 口, and voila! it will give you a link to all the info about the kanji, and you can click "words containing" or "words beginning with" to look it up. (This one actually narrows it down by radical, so as you click, the possible words will be narrowed down as well.)

That is a very handy link. The radicals things makes more sense I GUESSSSSSSS but I think it just looks easier because you have them all pictured next to each other so it's like OH HEY THAT MAKES SENSE. :I

LMAO I GUESS IT'S BETTER THAN STARING BLANKLY AT IT FOR HOURS NOT GETTING IT jksfjld.

though i guess i won't be translating the entire game there's just a few bits I'm more interested in...

.____. but i guess the me wanting to translate an english game from japanese back to english is a bit strange in itself lmfao.

but uhhhhhh you do translations by commission? XD How does that work?

lulz welcome to Japanese. |D;

It's not that strange, it's awesome to take an active interest in language. :3

Translation by commission tends to work by like "how complicated is what you want done and how much material is there." Real life translators generally do it by commission, too, except that usually they have either (a) an extensive network of word-of-mouth contacts or (b) an agency they work through/for. They do like $X per character.

But I don't do it that much (especially now that I'm here on study abroad) because pffff I have to spend all day doing Japanese shit B|; and then I have like 3-4 hours of homework, so why do I want to do it during my free time too
