I can totally see where you're coming from. I think my main thing is that when I was first introduced to Raven, I didn't see the 'goth clique' thing at all. I just saw a sarcastic person who makes for funny situations.

I guess that's sort of strange because the first episodes I saw on TV were all three parts of The End.

I didn't really see her as your generic 'emo' crowd pleaser, mostly because I didn't take her as an outwardly gothic person. She's grey because of daddy, and wears the clothes because it's comic reference. I can totally see how she'd fall into that stereotype though.

It all depends on how you viewed her in the series, and I didn't take her closed off-ness very seriously.

And see, this is why I hate to call myself a Raven fan, because of all the fandom wank. It's truly ridiculous, and I hate it especially because both Raven and Terra are my favorite characters. People seem to lose all respect for each other simply because of character preference. I seriously hate it when BBRae fans try to push the fact that Beast Boy and Terra's cannon screen time wasn't true or w/e. It clearly happened, and it clearly meant something. It was an important part of the comic as well!

I recently had a marathon for TT on New Years, and everyone wanted to skip Terra's arc because they all hate her... I nearly kicked them out of my house, I kid you not. :/

I'm glad I found someone like you who's just as fed up as me so I don't have to just whine to people who don't care. I'm actually planning to write a Raven/Terra friendship fic that takes place after the final episode. I'm sure it can be done, with careful characterization. :)
